Off the wagon
Feb. 3rd, 2009 08:13 pmOK, so, yeah...I went to the doctor today for my blood work results, and let's just say I have a lot of work ahead of me. I knew I had gained weight. I figured my cholesterol would be up. But up 100 points? Yikes.
It's the anniversary of my diagnosis. Feb. 3, 2006: the day I was diagnosed with diabetes. Talk about a shock. I went through all the emotions (denial, anger, etc.) and then I got over myself and went to work. Down went my weight, my cholesterol and my blood pressure. I became quite a loser. My A1c went from 7.1 to 6.1. Now, it's back up to 6.8. The ADA recommends an A1c of below 6.5. So, yes, I'm elevated.
When you're doing well, you only have to go in every six months. The doctor wants to see me in three months. So I have until mid-May to get my act together.
This may be the wake-up call I need. Depression...fear...maybe I can get them to work in my favor.
