Big decision time

I think I’m going to have to pull the kids out of daycare. Really, that money could be better spent elsewhere. It’s insane to pay what I’m paying just to have them there before and after school. Now that the chance of snow days has diminished, I’d only have to worry about early dismissals and school vacations. March looks to be a normal month – no closings, etc. – although I realize that it could still snow and throw a monkey wrench into the whole works. But if I give notice today, that puts us at the end of March, leaving only three more months in the school year. I’d have to figure out what to do with them in the mornings…call the bus company and make sure they can join the crowd of pickups at the end of our road. But the bus comes at 8:00 and I have to leave for work by 7:30. Hmm. Change my hours? Have L. stay over every night and make sure they get on the bus? And after school…they get out at 3:15 and would be home by 4:00. I don’t get home until 5:00. So…make sure L. is there every day so they won’t be home alone?

 

And the days off…well, I can probably count on my parents to take them for the April vacation. But Good Friday? Maybe I can take that as a floater. The early dismissal at the end of April, and the ones in June? Again, L. would have to step up.

 

Looks like we’ll have a lot to discuss on our 10:15 phone call.

OK, seems like it’s settled. I’m drafting a letter to the daycare as we speak.

I wonder if there's a local high schooler or something that would be willing to watch them for two hours every afternoon. A small part time job kinda thing. Might cost too much, now that I think about it.

Yeah, I've thought about that. You wouldn't believe what teens want to charge for babysitting these days. I'd rather "exploit" the unemployed. He's got nothing better to do anyway.
